The Bothwell prize is awarded annually by McArdle Laboratory for Cancer Research and UW Carbone Cancer Center for a paper published by a team based at the University of Wisconsin and judged for its potential impact on the understanding or treatment of cancer. The prize honors the legacy of Claire Bothwell, a young journalist who worked for the BBC in Scotland and a staunch advocate for the potential of science to produce transformational ideas for cancer prevention, early intervention and improved treatments.
We are honored to receive the 2024 Bothwell Prize for a paper led by Karan, Bradon, and Michelle describing how looking for aberrant DNA fragments shed from tumors into the blood can improve early cancer detection. Many thanks to the selection committee, and all of our collaborators who made this work possible.
